God’s President
“Let every person be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and those that exist have been instituted by God.” –Romans 13:1
This article will come out on Election Day. Many of you may read this article as you stand in line to vote or as you watch the results come in on TV or online.
Obviously, I don’t know who the winner of the 2024 Presidential Election is. Neither do you. We may find out tonight. But it’s more likely we’ll find out Friday or Saturday. While you wait for the results, I want to suggest a minor reframe with major implications.
Romans says that every governing authority that exists has “been instituted by God.” In other words, God has selected the winner of the 2024 Presidential Election. So here’s my suggestion as you wait for the results and as you find out who will be President for the next four years. Don’t ask: “Who won the 2024 election?” Instead, ask, “Who did God select to be President?” You may be thrilled by God’s selection. You may be disappointed by God’s selection. But whatever our reaction to God’s choice, it is God’s choice all the same.
Your Pastor and Friend,
