2 Thessalonians 1:3 — We ought always to give thanks to God for you, brothers, as is right, because your faith is growing abundantly, and the love of every one of you for one another is increasing.
Like Paul with the churches of Thessalonica, I am grateful for everyone at our church, and we should all thank God for one another. In the first six months, I am so grateful to God for the growth I've seen in myself and in our church, and that can't happen without y'all. At the end of the day, no pastor can grow a church (not really). Sure, a charismatic pastor can fill seats and bring in funds for a bigger building and larger budget, but he can't actually grow the Church.
Paul writes in 1 Corinthians, "I planted, Apollos watered, but God gave the growth." We rely upon God alone to grow His Church and to grow us as individuals. But He also invites us into that to plant seeds and water those seeds. And much of that is done through prayer.
I need your prayer. The church needs your prayer. Every week. Every day. The proclamation of the Word doesn't begin on Sunday sometime around 10:50, it begins Sunday after we finish worship as we all God to be with whoever will be preaching and teaching throughout the week and next Sunday. And I believe that we're a praying church, and we should thank God for that and for one another.
This opening verse in 2 Thessalonians should be a mission statement for each and every one of us. Not because we're not doing this well, but because we want to be continually growing in gratitude, faith, and love.
As you read this connections this week, thank God for our local church, His universal Church, and the faith He is working in you, and ask God to grow your faith in Him and your love for one another.
CPC, God is doing a work in us, and I am excited to be here with y'all to watch it unfold! But let's not become complacent or lazy in our prayers nor fall into divisiveness or complaining. Let's continue to thank God!
United in Christ,
Pastor Josh
