New Member Spotlight - The Gilmore Family

GET TO KNOW THE GILMORE FAMILY

Oliver and Kathy both grew up in the east central part of the state, the Auburn Metro area – officially Auburn-Opelika. They have kept their Alabama roots quite close, working in Montgomery for most of their careers. They moved to Birmingham for a time but they have been in Fairhope for some twenty-five years. They are very involved in the Fairhope community!

Oliver has an accounting background having graduated from Auburn School of Accounting and Kathy is an attorney with a heart for teaching legal education; she graduated from Alabama and Jones School of Law. We need to find out if they are a house divided when it comes to college football – Auburn or Alabama?!

Together Oliver and Kathy have three children and seven grandchildren. You can catch a glimpse of the crew in the photo above. They relish spending time with their family and helping out with the grandchildren.

Oliver and Kathy aren’t the types to sit around during retirement – they are active and involved in many ways. They enjoy helping elderly friends in the community; they love working in the yard, biking, walking, kayaking as well as hiking in interesting places. They love the outdoors and God’s creation! Speaking of gardening, quite a few of us enjoyed the delicious kumquats from their yard!

When they walked through the doors of CPC, Oliver and Kathy jumped in feet first and got involved, they are always eager to serve. You might find one of them teaching a lesson, helping in the kitchen, dinner hosting with Family Promise, playing the bells and always and forever helping to move tables and chairs!

When the world was stuck inside during the COVID 19 pandemic, they were listening to sermons on line as so many of us were. In God’s providence they happened upon John Foster’s preaching. They liked what they heard; they began visiting CPC and deeply appreciated that scripture was central to worship and study.

As you get to know Kathy and Oliver, you realize how important it is to them to practice and grow in their faith. They have a routine of daily Bible study and are committed to following Christ. One of their dreams for CPC is to reach out even more in the community and help those around us.

We are so blessed by The Gilmores and what they bring to this church family. Please take the time to get to know them and include them in your prayers. “One with the Lord, and bound to one another...”
