The Good Life
“Not life, but good life, is to be chiefly valued.” -Socrates
Everyone wants to live “the good life.” But few know what the good life is. In fact, few people have even taken a serious amount of time to think about the kind of life they would want if they could have it. That thought alone is scary. As Socrates pointed out long ago, it is possible for us to simply live life without ever considering what the good life is or taking steps to realizing it.
What about you? In your opinion, what does the good life consist of? I encourage you to take some time thinking about the good life this week. Start small. Imagine what a good day would be like if you could author it from beginning to end. Write out what you’d have for breakfast, who you’d have lunch with, what you’d do and where you’d go. Then zoom out a little and do the same for a good week, a good month, a good year.
We’re going to be starting a new sermon series at Christ Presbyterian Church this week on “The Good Life.” As a church, we’ll sit at the feet of Jesus as he explains to us what the good life really consists of. Jesus will reveal where we’ve misunderstood what it means to live a good life and he’ll show us how to get back on course.
I’m excited to learn from Jesus with you and I look forward to seeing you Sunday!
Your Pastor and Friend,
John Knox Foster
