Get to Know Member Mary Platt!
This Louisiana gal was born in Monroe, Louisiana. She has been in the Daphne area just over ten years. She found her way up the hill to CPC for the first time on Christmas Eve 2013. She got involved with another church but came back up the hill after Covid – and she stayed!
Mary was married for 24 years and she has one son, John Platt. She is a lifelong Presbyterian (of different varieties), only taking a side trip to the Baptist church while married. She is glad to be back to her Reformed roots- she still has her Baptismal record, the pink catechism and the yellow Westminster Catechism. Now that’s a deep-rooted Presbyterian!
Her first job was at a department store (wrapping gifts) at the age of 14; her mother worked there and it was a way of keeping her eye on young Mary. She worked in the insurance industry and then had the opportunity to work with Monroe Telco Federal Credit Union where she stayed for 27 years. Her experience there was a game changer as the Board of Directors was all Christians. This is certainly a testimony for being faithful wherever God places us to work and labor.
Mary studied accounting and data processing at Northeast Louisiana University (University of Louisiana Monroe). She had planned to get her accounting degree and become a CPA; things changed and her view is that the changed plan was a blessing.
There is much to Mary’s interests but she declares that first and foremost, she is a bona fide “piddler” (and very good at it!) - you’ll have to ask her to define PIDDLE! She enjoys sewing, crocheting, puttering in the yard, being outdoors and enjoying the woods and wildlife. She also loves to play card games (like Canasta) and work jigsaw puzzles.
Mary is a very active Deacon at CPC and you will find her in the kitchen most Wednesday nights as a part of the Hospitality Dream Team. She is also very involved with the CPC ministry at The Gardens of Daphne. She loves the Christian fellowship of CPC and serving others. When asked about her favorite aspect of CPC? She covered it all- John Foster and the congregation!
Mary is a faithful witness with a great giggle and sense of humor; she is a joy to know! We are blessed by the tie that binds us to her in Christian fellowship and so we sing of the goodness of God!
