3 People to Bring to Church On Easter
“How are they to believe in him of whom they have never heard?” -Romans 10:14
Can I share a few statistics to encourage you? Pew Research has found that people Google “church” more around Easter than at any other time of year. Thom Rainer – another top researcher – has found that 8 out of 10 people will accept a personal invitation to church.
Can I share a disheartening statistic with you? 7 out of 10 people who do not attend church have never been invited.
Christ Presbyterian has the ability to change those statistics in our community. In fact, we have the ability to change those statistics this month. Will you join me in making a commitment to invite someone to church on Easter weekend? Here are three types of people I want to encourage you to invite:
1) Your Family: Many of us will have family in town for Easter weekend. Yet so often, we stay home with our out-of-town family on Sunday instead of bringing them to church with us! God works in families. He wants to work in yours. Bring your family to church on Easter.
2) Your Dechurched Friends and Neighbors: Almost all of us know someone who used to go to church but doesn’t anymore. Perhaps they got out of the habit, or perhaps they were hurt by the church. Researchers refer to people in this category as dechurched. Ask them to be your guest on Easter Sunday. They are more willing to accept your invitation at Easter than at any other time of year – and our God is the kind of God who searches after lost sheep such as these.
3) Your Neverchurched Friends and Neighbors: All of us know someone who has never been to church before. Perhaps they practice another faith, or perhaps they practice no faith at all. Bring them with you on Easter as your invited guest. The church puts on her best at Easter – and the Lord will be at work. I’m excited for Easter weekend at Christ Presbyterian. I believe the Lord is going to move in amazing ways. But let’s not just pray for him to move.
Let’s join him in his work by extending an invitation to our family, our friends, and our neighbors.
