“Behold, I am doing a new thing; now it springs forth, do you not perceive it? I will make a way in the wilderness and rivers in the desert.”-Isaiah 43:19
Our core mission at Christ Presbyterian Church is “connecting people to Christ.” One of the most direct ways we carry out this work is through our partnership with Child Evangelism Fellowship. CEF exists to bring the good news of the gospel to children in the public school system through its after school care program called the Good News Club. Here is a brief update on the work of the CEF chapter we partner with in Florida from their director Matthew Wade:
In the spring of 2022, our staff was planning out each school we wanted to get into for the 2022-2023 school year. As Chelsea (our Assistant Local Director) and I talked about all the potential we had for growth, Nada (our Ministry Coordinator, who just retired at the end of the year) said: “You better be careful what you ask for, because God is going to give you thoseclubs, and then you’ll really have a lot of work on your hands.”Well, Nada was right. At the time, we had just finished the 2021-2022 school year with 16 schools participating in Good News Club, and we could not imagine how quickly God was going to move in the two months leading up to the 2022-2023 school year. While it was hard getting much traction during the summer months for new clubs to start in the fall of 2022, we had a flood of interest spark up before the school year began. Since we started our first middle school club and our first Good News Club in a new county this school year, our theme for training conferences has been: “A New Thing.”As of this writing, we are now in 24 schools (23 elementary schools and 1 middle school) and are reaching more than 800 children with the Gospel each week! This is truly only possible because of churches and individuals who generously support our mission of evangelism and discipleship, and we feel very honored to receive support from a church family that is so far away geographically. May the community of Christ Presbyterian Church continue to be blessed and bless others through its outreach!
What a great privilege to partner with this organization to carry out our shared mission of connecting people to Christ. Would you join me in praying for Matthew and his team this month?
