Mission Spotlight: Cornerstone Presbyterian Church
“And as you wish that others would do to you, do so to them.”- Luke 6:31
Every Easter season, it has been our custom at CPC to donate the money collected for our Wednesday Night meals to a mission cause of our choosing. This year, the Mission’s Committee has chosen Cornerstone Presbyterian Church in Selma, Alabama.
As you mayremember, a very large and destructive tornado struck Selma on January 12. The tornado caused a great deal of damage in the town and left a number of people temporarily homeless. As soon as the winds died down, Cornerstone EPC opened its doors to the community and began feeding and helping those in need in any way they could.
Living on the Gulf Coast, we know a thing or two about natural disasters. We know the destruction and devastation that a hurricane or a tornado can cause. We know what it’s like to have your world literally flipped upside down in a day.
Jesus teaches us in Luke 6:31, “As you wish that others would do to you, do so to them.” What do we long for in the aftermath of a severe storm? We long for help from our brothers and sisters in Christ. We now have the opportunity that Jesus spoke about: to “do so to them.” As you attend Wednesday Night activities leading up to Easter, would you consider giving generously to support our sister church and the community in Selma in the wake of this disaster?
Your Pastor and Friend,
